10 Interesting Facts About Cyber Security

Hacking has seen a massive increase over the last few years. In fact, according to the University of
Maryland, there is a cyber-attack committed every 39 seconds, but hacking doesn’t just occur over Wi-Fi.
Read 10 Facts About cyber security.

1.Bluetooth

It’s true that WiFi is the most common way hacking occurs, but it can also occur through bluesnarfing and
blujacking. The worst thing is bluetooth hacking is incredibly simple to do. Bluesnarfing allows a remote
user unauthorized access to the information on your phone. Bluejacking is actually quite harmless compared
to Bluesnarfing as it enables the remote user to send files to the target device. However, phishing scams can
be done though bluejacking.

2.Cyber Security Job

Currently, there are approximately over four million cyber security jobs vacant, which is kind of strange
considering cyber security is one of the highest salary jobs in the world today and cyber security engineers
are in high demand.

3.Cryptocurrencies

The biggest rise in cybercrime is related to the mining of cryptocurrencies. To mine bitcoin and other
associated cryptocurrencies, it requires some serious processing power, hence the rise in hacking of other
peoples devices. These hacking attacks may not touch the information on a device, but simply attack it to
steal its processing power. This form of attack is known as cryptojacking.

4.Device Vulnerabilities

Of all the devices available on the market today, over 50 of them have been found to have serious
vulnerabilities and some of these are smart technology. The devices meant to make convenience a way of
life is in fact setting people up for identity theft, fraud and blackmail.

5.WiFi Connection

Routers using the WEP algorithm are much easier to hacking attacks since their encryption is not as strong
as WPA-PSK routers but the WPA-PSK2 is much better than its predecessor as it achieves a higher
connection speed. To keep safe from hacking, employ WPA-PSK2. It still has vulnerabilities, but it is much
safer than the routers.

6.keystroke Logger

A keystroke logger can either be installed remotely or a small device can be implanted into a devices
hardware. It’s function is designed to record each letter and digit a person enters on their keyboard and were
it was input to. It is a popular hacking method used to steal passwords, banking credentials and private
information.

7.Phishing

The majority of malware attacks are enabled through email and make up for more than eighty per cent of all
hacking attacks. Phisphing attacks start with the opening of an email or downloading an attachment which
allows the embedded malware to attack the device.

8.Data Breaches

The four most common sectors attacked are retail, government, technology, and health. 75% of the health
care sector became the focus of malware attacks in 2018 and 2019 whereas the retail, government and
technology sectors saw a 95% increase in data breaches since they store personal data more usable to
hackers.

9.Third Party Apps

Majority of the malware attacks committed against smartphones comes from third party apps. This is apps
not installed through Google Play or the Apple iStore. Of all third-party apps installed, a cringe worthy
ninety-nine per cent are infected with malware. Malware attacks on smartphones increased by fifty-four
percent in 2017.

10.Ransomware

Ransomware is a vicious virus that locks the user out of their device and demands money for it to be
released. What is not so well known is that ransomware occurs on smartphones as well as desktops and
laptops. In 2020, a ransomware attack occurred every 11 seconds and the cost of ransomware attacks will
incur a charge of twenty billion by 2021.
